What are Google Shopping Ads? The type of ad that provides detailed information about the products you sell on your website is called Google Shopping Ads. You can use this type of advertising to promote the products in your online shopping store, increase the number of visitors to your website and reach customers who are likely to buy the products you sell. It can be expressed as Showcase Shopping ads where a single product can be promoted or several related products related to the product range on your website can be promoted.

For example; let’s examine the ads we see for the search query sneakers. When you search on your desktop computer, you can find the results marked in the image below. Sponsored results on the right are advertisements provided by online shopping sites.

By clicking on the Shopping button in the tabs above the search results, you can see a detailed list of other results for the ads.

To create Google Shopping ads, you need to submit your products to Google via Merchant Center and create a campaign through Google Ads. Once your ads are approved, your campaign will be used on Google for your potential customers to see. Unlike other ads, this type of ad displays the product photo, title, price, store name and other information (discounts on the product, etc.). The most important feature of shopping ads is that users can see a lot of important information about the product you are selling before they click on your ad. This way, you can reach customers who are likely to buy the products you sell.

How to Create Google Shopping Ads?

How to determine where and how your shopping ads will appear? Unlike other ad types, Google does not consider keywords for this ad type, but rather the data contained in the Merchant Center. It uses this data for your advertising. The product data sent by you to Merchant Center includes detailed information about the products you sell in your online store.
You can create your ads using Google Ads and Google Ads API (Adwords API). Before you can create ads, you need to fulfill a few requirements that Google asks of you. First of all, you must have a Google Adwords account and a Google Merchant Center account. You should then link these accounts to each other.
You must comply with Google’s policies regarding shopping ads and all other advertising. For more detailed information about Google’s advertising policies, you can visit the Google Ads Help page. Google Shopping Policies and Adwords Advertising Policies differ. Both therefore need to be examined in detail. You need to make sure that your type of business, your campaigns and your website meet all the requirements. For Google Shopping ads, you need to submit an updated version of your products to Google via Merchant Center at least every 30 days. Current data should comply with Google’s standards.
If you meet the relevant conditions, you can create your campaign. You can create a separate campaign for this ad type to make reporting easier. You can optionally add your 1:1 logo to Merchant Center for your ads to display.

After creating your campaign, you can create your ad group. When adding an ad group, you need to select your campaign and ad type for Shopping Ads and name your ad group. You can enter a bid for your ad group and start selecting product groups. Once you have identified your products, you can subdivide your products or exclude product groups that you do not want to be shown. In order for your ads to run, you need to have 6 – 10 products with high relevance in your ad group. To be included in more queries, it is recommended to have 1000 or more products in your ad group.

After selecting the product groups, you can proceed to the step of creating ads. You can save your transaction by entering details such as image, title, description, final URL, visible URL in the ads you will create. With the approval of your ads, users start to see ads for your products.
