Page reputation (PA) is a score developed by Moz
that predicts how well a given page will rank in
search engine results pages (SERPs). Page
authority scores range from 1 to 100, with
higher scores corresponding to a greater ability
to rank.
Page reputation is based on data from the web
index and takes dozens of factors into account.
Similar to Domain Authority, Page Authority
scores are generated using a machine learning
model that defines the algorithm best matching
the rankings among thousands of SERPs. It then
uses that specific calculation to generate Page
Authority scores.
How to Calculate Page Reputation?
Page reputation is plotted on a logarithmic
scale of 100 points. That’s why increasing your
score from 20 to 30 is much easier than raising
it from 70 to 80. The algorithm used to
calculate page authority is continually updated,
so you may notice changes in your score from
time to time.
“Good” What is Page Authority?
How page reputation is calculated is best used as a comparative measure (rather than an absolute, tangible score) when searching search results and determining which pages may be stronger. As a comparative tool, there is no such thing as a “good” or “bad” page authority score.
Comparison of Page Authority and Domain Authority
Page reputation measures the projected ranking
strength of a single page, while domain
reputation measures the strength of entire
domains or subdomains. However, the metrics are
calculated using the same methodology. In many
ways, they are more similar than they are
different.
Technical Definition of Page Reputation
Page reputation is calculated in the same way as
domain authority, but at the individual page
level. Page Authority is based on data from the
Mozscape web index and includes a range of
factors, such as the number of backlinks and
over forty other elements. Importantly, it does
not take into account specific on-page elements
such as keyword usage or content optimization.
Like domain authority, page authority is
calculated using a machine learning algorithm
and therefore fluctuates as the data fed into
the algorithm changes. Therefore, it’s
best to use Page Authority as a relative measure
for comparing against other pages rather than an
absolute value that “scores” a
page’s rankability.
How Do I Affect Page Reputation?
Like domain authority, page authority is a
holistic score and is difficult to influence
directly. It consists of a total set of
measurements, each of which has an impact on the
score. This multifactorial dependency is
intentional. Google evaluates numerous factors
when ranking a page, so any measurement
attempting to assess this must also consider
multiple factors.
The best way to influence the authority of a
page is to improve its link profile. This can be
achieved by acquiring external links from other
high-authority pages that serve as “votes
of confidence” for your page’s
authority.
